Meet April

Ko Wai Au

Kia ora e hoa, I’m April Broomhead, also known as Aunty A.

I walk with wāhine, mātua, and rangatahi who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or quietly carrying more than they were ever meant to.  The ones who are ready to feel solid again. Clear. Like themselves — in heart, mind, body, and wairua.

With decades of lived experience, formal training in psychology and human development, and a deeply intuitive approach, I bring together modern science and ancestral knowing. I use therapeutic frameworks that make sense, and wānanga that speak to the soul.

This space was built for people like us, those doing deep inner work while still packing lunches, leading teams, showing up to tangi, and holding it down for the whare.

This is emotional support that speaks both languages: the clinical and the cultural, the head and the heart.

Because healing isn’t about fixing what’s broken ... it’s about remembering who you are, reclaiming your whakapapa, and returning to the rhythm of your own mauri.

Why I Do This Mahi.

I didn’t land in this mahi through textbooks alone. I arrived through lived experience, through heartbreak, unlearning, reconnection, and the long walk back to my own mana.

As a māmā, a wāhine Māori, and someone who’s rebuilt herself from the bones up, I know the ache of holding everything together while quietly falling apart.

I know the courage it takes to choose healing when you’ve inherited hurt.

This mahi is in my bloodline, it’s in the way my daughter advocates for herself now, in the tears clients shed when they finally feel seen, and in the bold belief that our tamariki deserve to grow up in homes where love feels safe, not confusing.

I do this because I believe in raising families, not trauma bonds.
In restoring emotional safety, not just managing behaviour.
In reclaiming identity, not performing for approval.

In raising wāhine who know who they are, and rangatahi who know they matter.

So if you’re here wondering if it’s too late, too hard, or too messy, it’s not.

You’re not.

You're exactly where you're meant to be.

Let’s rebuild from here — together.

You Don’t Have to Hold It All Alone

Life feels heaps sometimes. School, whānau, friends, your future, it builds up, and no one really sees how much you’re carrying.

You might be telling yourself to just “get over it,” but deep down, you’re tired. Tired of pretending. Tired of holding it in.

Talking to someone who actually listens, without judging, fixing, or reporting back, can be the thing that helps you breathe again.

This isn’t about being broken.

It’s about being real. It’s about finding your way back to yourself.

Because your story matters. Your peace matters.

And you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

🌺 For Parents / Adults

Support Is Strength, Not Shame

Many of us were never taught how to care for our emotions, and we were

taught to cope, survive, and carry on.

But what worked back then often holds us back now.

Emotional and mental wellbeing is the heart of a safe home, a connected whānau, and confident tamariki. Without it, even the most loving families can find themselves stuck in silence, stress, or struggle.

Seeking support doesn’t mean you’re failing, it means you’re choosing something better.

Not just for you, but for everyone you love.

Healing starts when you stop doing it alone.

 My Philosophy

Trust isn’t about relying on others to keep their promises.
True trust is the quiet confidence that, no matter what’s happening around you, you stand strong for yourself.

It begins and ends with the bond you cultivate within,

your relationship with you.
